The 52 Worlds of Earth

(WGA-w Registration #1699859)

Set in the universe of OUTPOST SEVEN, THE 52 WORLDS OF EARTH is a full- throttle plunge into the what-if of science fiction. The original 52 worlds settled by Earth have been shut off by the Empire for centuries. Now, to save humanity, a small team must penetrate the border and locate a single human who can save humanity from a new biological threat launched by the Tri-an-the-um in their push to conquer the galaxy.

Genre: Science Fiction

Logline: The Empire faces a new challenge in a century-long war. If a select group of military specialists cannot locate a solution... a solution lost in the hostile worlds of the old Earth Federation, all of humanity and their allies face extinction.

Short Pitch: The 51 planets of the old Earth Federation (52 including Earth) have been isolated for thousands of years from the rest of humanity. They are fundamentalists, stubbornly refusing the new biological advances that have allowed the rest of humanity to spread throughout the galaxy. But they hold the key to survival and the select crew of the Star Frigate Phoenix Rising has been sent into the Federation to locate and secure genetic material from one genetically pure human in order to save the lives of quadrillions modified to survive on in the diverse worlds of the Empire.

The Hook:   Audiences will be drawn to a quest tofind Earth, a mythological place. As we enter intothe space of the Forbidden Planets, we progresswith the same tension that has capturedaudiences since the beginning of entertainment:what will come next. Our trip will take us pastdangers purely mechanical onto worlds where thebiological mix is both familiar and alien where wemeet people who represent ideologies that arecommon today... but exploded thousands of yearsin the future. This is the ultimate of WHAT IF, thequestion that drove the great science writers ofthe last century, Heinlein, Clark, Asimov, OrsonScott Card, Ray Bradbury, Frank Herbert, andHarlan Ellison: what would happen if this trend in today's society continued... We have 51 worlds inwhich to explore the basic Human elements thatare the underlying foundation for society. This isnot a journey into the unknown frontiers of space, but a compelling plunge into the essence of whatmakes Humans Human and how we shape our societies.

The New Twist: This is a quest back into the roots of the human Empire, a backwards journey from a fantastic time to the elements of today's world which spawned the migrations of the future. What would a world be like if Socialism was in total control - heaven or hell? A planet where Sharia Law was paramount - would there be progress or stagnation? Would pure democracy lead to chaos or the order represented by Switzerland? Each world represents a specific element in society and examines how it would influence the future if taken to the ultimate extreme.

Week-to-Week: The crew of the PhoenixRising will be presented with new andunique civilizations which have grownfrom current practices and theories. Some planets will have sunk intobarbarism; others will have reached ahigh level of technology. We will findworlds controlled by robots, worldswhere Humanity has vanished, worldswhere peace and love reign supreme. There will be hardship, tragedy, battles, and loves as the crew slowly dwindles;hope becomes more remote; and desperation grows greater. Compounding the issue is the need toinvestigate every planet, even those where Humanity has given over to other species: the records thatwould indicate the location of Earth are lost. The crew must search through ruined cities, ruinedcultures, hostile civilizations, and deceptively sweet greetings. The challenge isto locate a genetically pure Human but first they must find the clues to the nextworld as they draw closer to the Federation's home system. Will they find whatthey need or must they venture all the way to Earth? Does Earth even exist?

Season Long: Each week will lead us closer to a defined goal, one that the crew believes will ultimately lead them to the desired goal. As the season builds, each show will grow in tension as they near their goal... ultimately to fail.

It is not until the last season when they discover Earth... but not the Earth they expected. Instead, they learn that a single slow ship left, not for the galactic core, but for the thin scattering of stars on the outside edge of the Milky Way.

Desire for THE 52 WORLDS OF EARTH: Good science fiction has been a stable oftelevision since the days of black and white. THE OUTER LIMITS, THE WORLDBEYOND, and THE TWILIGHT ZONE are television classics.STAR TREK and its subsequent spin-offs honed the genre. It waits now for a show that can combine the grandeur ofspace, the cinematographic elements now affordablydepict realistic alternate realities, and the tension ofprograms like GAME OF THRONES introduced. It alsoallows for the creative expression that brought top writersto pen episodes for STAR TREK and the freedom to followa story with the flexibility that has propelled cabletelevision into the forefront of creative programming.
